Intermontane Challenge 08

The Intermontane Challenge will have two separate races within a race.
We will have teams of 2 riders and solo racers competing. This offers the solo racer a chance to race on their own with full support. By doing this, it makes the team division that much more competitive.

The Intermontane Challenge will be staged in Kamloops with 5 loops that will start and finish in Kamloops. Can you see the benefit already? No more packing and unpacking everyday.

Having a city of 85,000 to support a race of this size is huge. The racer will have their choice of enjoying a nice espresso at a local cafe before each stage or going out on the town each night to hang out with the new people they will meet and enjoy a nice bottle of wine over a four course dinner!

There is nothing better than racing some awesome singletrack all day and pinning it that little bit extra for the finish line to enjoy the benefits of basing out of a city jammed full of places to hang out at after the stage....the life of the pro racer....now that's cool!.

You will not need a support team to get you set for each stage since we are located in one area for the entire race. This event is a marquee race and goes one step further in proving that Kamloops is the Tournament Capital of Canada.

Get ready for the sweetest single track anywhere in the world and to be pampered by our city!

Pin it for the win in our Solo Category or suffer along side your best bud and cruise along for the fun of it in one of our Team Categories. Either way the race will challenge you and offer up the best prize purse in the history of Mountain Bike stage racing!!!

The heart of our event based with the awesome singletrack trail network that Kamloops has grown famous for....sweet, flowing singletrack that goes on forever with the occasional super technical section thrown in to keep you honest.
The Intermontane Crew are riders too and love riding mountain bikes on singletrack and want to share what our backyard has to offer....some of the best riding anywhere....PERIOD!

The distances and times will be similar to that of other endurance mtb stage races out there. Expect to be in the saddle for a long hard day of epic riding. THIS IS NOT A REGULAR XC FORMAT - OUR EVENT IS AN ENDURANCE ONE AND OUR STAGES WILL REFLECT THAT! THE INTERMONTANE CHALLENGE WILL NOT BE A SUNDAY RIDE - BE PREPARED TO SUFFER! We will have variety in each of the stages that will challenge everyone. Suffering up long singletrack climbs will present the payoff of big descents. The different type of terrain around Kamloops will challenge all the skills of the riders. We also will have one EPIC STAGE that will become our own version of a classic! Our event will be a true off road endurance test - guaranteed!

After a great day of racing our world class trails you'll be tired and ready to chow down. It's all covered! Our staff will provide a healthy, hearty, warm meal for breakfast and follow up with different dinners each night. We make sure all racers get what they need, because you’re going to need it! Over dinner, hang out with your fellow racers, have a beer and talk about the days stage or maybe pop into a local coffee shop and have a java. Relax.

After each race day, head to one of our pre booked accommodations and enjoy a comfortable stay with hot showers and all the comforts of home and get ready to rip again!

Race Rules:

ALL RIDERS

• all racers must treat the trails and other competitors with respect. Littering, over aggressive riding and abuse of other competitors will not be tolerated and will be grounds to issue a warning to the rider in question. A rider may be disqualified based on repeated lack of respect of the rules.
• due to the amount of singletrack in our stages, speed has the right of way. Slower riders must yield to faster riders that are overtaking them. A simple “track” or the like is enough to let the slower rider know that a faster rider is wanting to overtake them. Faster riders must pass with care and keep safety in mind when choosing an appropriate pass.
  
• all competitors and support staff must respect race organizers and volunteers. Abuse of these personnel will not be tolerated and will be subject to a warning or disqualification.
  
• riders must be present at the start line 30 minutes prior to the start of each stage for sign in. Any rider missing the start will be allowed to compete but their start time will be that of the official start time for the entire field.
  
• race officials may change the course at any time in the event of danger due to weather, wildlife or other.
  
• when racing on open roads, city streets and highways the rider must ride on the far right hand side of the road at all times and be aware that some areas will be open to public traffic.
  
• in the event that a racer drops out of competition they must inform race officials asap. This rider will be able to start the following stage but will receive no official time or ranking.
  
• all racers are responsible for their own personal belongings during the event. The Intermontane Challenge or any of its sponsors, volunteers or partners are not responsible for lost or stolen articles during our event.
  
• all riders leading the overall standings in either solo category must wear the official leaders jersey for that category.
  
• riders must compete on a mountain bike. Rider will be allowed to switch bikes for each stage in the event of a major mechanical failure or the desire to use a specific bike of their choice to suit the terrain. Racers must wear an approved bicycle helmet at all times.
  
• all riders must start each stage with the necessary provisions to atleast get themselves to the first feed zone. Water, energy drink, food, proper clothing and bike repair essentials are a must!

TEAM RIDERS

• team riders should ride each stage as close as possible together. The last member of each team to cross the finish line will count as the teams official finishing time. No penalty will be given for riders who are separated from each other but this is highly discouraged.
  
• if one member of a team is unable to complete a stage or drops out of the event the remaining team member may continue competing in the solo category. This rider will receive no official overall time but can compete for stage victories and receive the award/prize given to the stage winner. This rider’s placing will not effect the overall ranking in the affected category. This rider will be recognized as a Finisher of the event if they go on to complete all five stages.
  
• all team racers who are leading the overall standings in their respective category must wear the official leaders jersey for that category.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

• all racers must be in good physical shape and be prepared for possible extreme conditions.
• all racers must make sure their bike and equipment is in perfect and safe working order prior to competition. All riders must participate on a mountain bike that is suited to cross country racing and riding.
• all racers must wear a helmet at all times and proper cycling/athletic attire.
  
• all racers must provide proof of name and age with a driver’s license or passport.
  
• all racers must provide a passport sized photo to the organizers (1 month prior to race) at sign up to be used on their race I for proper identification during the event.
  
• all racers must over 18 years of age at the time of the event.
  
• all racers must sign a waiver to take full responsibility for their participation in the Intermontane Challenge
  
• all racers must have the appropriate insurance that covers them for competitive sports and possible helicopter evacuation during the event.
• Medical release allowing medical procedures to be performed if the participate is unable to give permission. This should also include a list of allergies and medical history. This would be needed for the treating physicians…
